Regular Council Meeting 3
November 27, 1990
Mayor Ranallo said the question is whether to put four signs or one on each
monument.
• 3
Hansen added that Newman's presentation was accurate, but not with regard
to the fence. The safety issue was discussed and Hansen believes there
would be a visibility issue. He said that if you envision the roads just
plowed and snow piled, drivers would have to pull quite a ways out to clear
the structures. Three Commissioners agreed that the hardships were met
and three did not agree. Those who did not agree, Hansen said, felt that two
signs or three signs would be adequate; therefore, there was no agreement.
He also said the Commissioners had questioned whether there was anything
unique about this situation.

Marks said he agreed that there is a hardship and need for signage. He said
this is a reasonable request.

Motion by Marks, second by Wagner to support this variance allowing four
signs, two at each entrance and that the additional 50 ft. requested, total of
250 sq. ft., be granted also.

Enrooth said he was "uncomfortable" with four signs.
Makowske said getting into the property without the signs could be seen as a
hardship.

Hansen said address and directional signs were discussed by the
Commissioners and the Company said no. Newman clarified that there would
be no address signs; however, with regard to directional signs, he would be
open to the wishes of the Council.

Enrooth said his problem is having identical signage on a secondary entrance.

Newman said the purpose of the signs is to identify the development for
visitors; and secondly, he feels it lends a sense of neighborhood for the
residents.

Wagner reminded the Council that if the monument does not have a sign,
then it becomes part of the fence. The Company would need another
variance or move the monument

Mayor Ranallo said that if the vote should fail, the Company can return for
another variance that would comply.

• 44
