Regular Council Meeting <br /> September 24, 1991 <br /> Page 6 <br /> 1. October 22nd Council meeting for public input. Councilmembers <br /> 2 agreed the extra time would be beneficial. The October 22nd <br /> 3 meeting for the 1992 City budget will be publicized. <br /> 4 Ranallo chaired the League of Minnesota Cities Federal Legislative <br /> 5 Committee. The following items were discussed at a recent meeting: <br /> 6 —> The City of St. Anthony passed a resolution in August of this year <br /> 7 regarding relief from the Superfund statute which makes cities <br /> 8 responsible for moneys spent on hazardous waste clean up. <br /> 9 This resolution will be made a part of the solid waste policy; <br /> 10 Siting of residential group homes and the amount of control the <br /> 11 federal government has regarding them should be modified; <br /> 12 Sound abatement. for airplanes whereby some of the money <br /> 13 airlines pay to airports would be used to research and build <br /> 14 quieter airplanes rather than moving an airport site; and <br /> 15 --► Health care and housing were also discussed. • <br /> 16 B. CITY MANAGER <br /> 17 Matters discussed during the morning's staff meeting were outlined by <br /> 18 Urbia. Among those items were the hiring of two new police officers.(one <br /> 19 will start September 30th; results of the second applicant's physical and <br /> 20 psychological tests are being done); applications are still being accepted <br /> 21 for a new maintenance worker; and the Fire Department's participation in <br /> 22 an emergency training session at Wilshire Park Elementary School. The <br /> 23 demonstration has grown to include use of a bus, NSP personnel, Kiwanis <br /> 24 members and others. It will be held on September 26th at 6:30 P.M.. <br /> 25 VIII. PUBLIC HEARINGS. <br /> 26 There were no public hearings. <br />
