1 REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING <br /> 2 FEBRUARY 11 , 1992 • <br /> 3 PAGE 12 <br /> 4 <br /> 5 <br /> 6 <br /> 7 Zawislak felt there would be no significant cost at the <br /> 8 present time. He noted that the equipment currently <br /> 9 available in City Hall is rather outdated. <br /> 10 <br /> 11 The City Manager stated that the staff presently has the <br /> 12 equipment to record, but needs the playback equipment . <br /> 13 Informational tapes which could be run on local access <br /> 14 are available at the Ramsey County library. <br /> 15 <br /> 16 Zawislak suggested the Council authorize the formation of <br /> 17 a Cable Commission in St . Anthony. He felt there were <br /> 18 many resident who would be interested in serving on this <br /> 19 type of committee and who had expertise in the field of <br /> 20 cable television. He also felt some of the suggestions of <br /> 21 this committee, although progressive, may cost . <br /> 22 <br /> 23 Mayor Ranallo stated that his position is no funds will <br /> 24 be spent on cable while the State and the cities are in <br /> 25 a financial dilemma. He recalled that in survey responses <br /> 26 only one percent of the subscribers of cable television <br /> 27 said they would be interested in viewing Council <br /> 28 Meetings . <br /> 29 <br /> 30 The City Manager stated that to improve the Council <br /> 31 Chambers for live cablecasts would require better <br /> 32 lighting and cameras . These would cost between $5, 000 and <br /> 33 $8 , 000 but would be a one time cost . Volunteer assistance <br /> 34 would be sought for operating the cameras and for <br /> 35 videotaping other community activities . <br /> 36 <br /> 37 The Mayor again stated his position regarding <br /> 38 expenditures for cable matters when the City is <br /> 39 experiencing budget problems . <br /> 40 <br /> 41 The City Manager felt a taping of the Goal Setting <br /> 42 Session information could be utilized in an experimental <br /> 43 manner. He will direct the City' s Management Assistant to <br /> 44 prepare this tape and stated it will be run in the next <br /> 45 few weeks . <br /> 46 <br /> 47 Counci.lmember Marks thanked Zawislak for his presentation <br /> 48 and stated he favors live cablecasting of City Council <br /> 49 Meetings . <br /> 50 <br /> 51 Councilmember Fleming requested a tape of precinct caucus <br /> 52 procedures be gotten from the tape library in Ramsey <br /> 53 County and run frequently before the caucuses on March <br /> 54 3rd. <br />
