City Council Regular Meeting Minutes <br /> August 12, 1997 <br /> • Page '3 <br /> 1 Fire Department, they reported this is the second time this has happened in one week. <br /> 2 Wagner stressed the vandalism in City parks needs to be addressed. <br /> 3 Wagner reported his attendance at National Night Out sites with Police Chief Engstrom. <br /> 4 They visited a total of eight sites. Although attendance was good, Wagner stated it was <br /> 5 somewhat diminished by the rainfall. Despite the rainfall, it appeared to be a good chance for <br /> 6 neighbors to get out and know each other better. <br /> 7 A. Recognition of Police Officers Jack Christman and Ron Lehner For Their Actions in <br /> 8 the Apprehension of Suspects in a Recent Homicide. <br /> 9 Police Chief Richard Engstrom reported that on August 1, 1997, while on duty in the City of <br /> 10 Lauderdale, Officer Lehner spotted a young juvenile attempting to steal a car. When he <br /> 11 investigated the juvenile fled. After a brief chase on foot, assisted by Officer Christman, two <br /> 12 suspects were apprehended. This resulted in the clearing of a homicide which had occurred in <br /> 13 St. Paul hours before. All property was recovered, the two suspects and a third suspect were <br /> 14 charged. <br /> 15 Police Chief Engstrom presented a Letter of Commendation to Officers Ronald E. Lehner, a <br /> 16 four year veteran of the St. Anthony Police Department and Jack C. Christman, a six year <br /> 408 veteran. He congratulated both officers for excellent police work. <br /> Mayor Ranallo presented Officers Lehner and Christman with a plaque commending them for <br /> 19 outstanding community service. He complimented both officers on the outstanding work they <br /> 20 and the entire police department performs for the City of St. Anthony. He thanked them for <br /> 21 their service. <br /> 22 B. Councilmembers - Continued. <br /> 23 Councilmember Faust reported that he, Councilmember Enrooth and City Manager Morrison <br /> 24 had attended the first Storm Drainage Task Force meeting on July 30, 1997. The Task Force <br /> 25 is off to a good start and has good technical assistance that will help to provide a long term <br /> 26 solution to the problem. <br /> 27 Faust reported he will attend a League of Minnesota Cities meeting on Fiscal Futures on <br /> 28 Thursday, August 14, 1997 and will report back to the Council at the next meeting. <br /> 29 Councilmember Enrooth reported VillageFest went quite well in spite of the weather. A <br /> 30 wrap-up meeting will be held on Monday, August 18, 1997 and he will report back to the <br /> 31 Council at the next meeting. <br /> 32 C. Mayor. <br /> 33 Mayor Ranallo reported his attendance at the neighborhood meeting on storm water drainage <br /> 14 on August 4, 1997. He reported the meeting was well attended by approximately 85 people. <br /> 35 Mayor Ranallo reported Senator John Marty has sent a letter to Governor Carlson requesting <br /> 36 $1 million to help pay for damages to homes in the City of St. Anthony.
