t City Council Regular Meeting Minutes January 25, 2000 Page 2 At this time, Mayor Cavanaugh asked the Recording Secretary to poll the Councilmembers for 2 their,individual vote. 3 COUNCILMEMBER VOTE 4 Sparks: Randy Hodson 5 Thuesen: Jerry Faust 6 Horst: Jerry Faust 7 Cavanaugh: Randy Hodson 8 Cavanaugh explained that in the case of a tie, the Mayor would appoint the new member. 9 In that respect, Mayor Cavanaugh appointed Randy Hodson as the new Councilmember, and 10 then called for a brief recess at 7:26 p.m. I I Mayor Cavanaugh called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. Connie Kroeplin, City Clerk, admin- 12 istered the Oath of Office for Mr. Hodson as the new City Councilmember. 13 VI. PROCLAMATIONS AND RECOGNITIONS. 4 None. 15 VII. COMMUNITY FORUM. 16 Mayor Cavanaugh began by stating that the forum is open to the public and there is a five-minute 17 time limit. He requested that anyone wishing to speak to the Council provide their name and ad- 18 dress and restrict comments to items not on the meeting agenda. 19 Chris Schober, 2902 Crestview Drive, approached the Council and wished to speak about ice 20 skating in the,City. She stated that Silver Point Park has not had skating for three winters. She 21 was informed recently that general skating is planned for next winter, but there were not any pro- 22 visions regarding ice hockey. She was told that the old hockey boards were thrown away and 23 that new boards were too expensive. 24 Ms. Schober went on to specifically designate which parks had general skating, ice hockey facili- 25 ties, or both. She mentioned that had been a discussion about combining general skating and 26 hockey skating on one rink and she advised against this idea. 27 In essence, Ms. Schober asked the Council for priority on the following issues: (1) youth winter 28 activities; (2) snow wall erected at Central Park; (3) a deadline for ordering hockey boards; and 29 (4)a deadline in the fall as to when the boards at Silver Point Park and Central Park would be in- 30 stalled. 31 Mayor Cavanaugh remarked that the Chair of the Parks Commission was in the audience, and he 32 thanked Ms. Schober for her input and interest in the community.
