45
MEMORANDUM
DATE: October 4, 2000
TO: Mayor and Councilmembers
FROM: Michael Morrison, City Manager
ITEM: CITY VOLUNTEER DINNER
A suggestion has been made by Councilmember Horst for the Council to discuss the City
sponsor an additional recognition gathering for members of the Parks Commission, Planning
Commission, Police Volunteers and Fire Department Reserves. This is similar to what was
done in the past, with the exception of the Fire Reserves who are paid, part-time employees
and have not been included in the Volunteer Dinners of the present or past. In the past, the.
Gardeners, Pastors from the St. Anthony Churches, Kiwanis, and Lions were invited because
• the Volunteer Dinner was considered a City function only. This list was greatly expanded 3
years ago to include the School Board, Sports Boosters, Community Services, Friends of the
Library, etc.
There are a number of options the Council may want to discuss:
1. The City Council currently holds a Christmas luncheon in December for City
employees to which the Commissioners, Volunteers and Reserves could be invited.
2. The City Manager, in addition, holds an Employee Recognition luncheon, usually in
March, recognizing City employees' longevity, years of service to which the
Commissioners, Volunteers.and Reserves could be included.
3. Leave as it currently is with those groups included in the annual Volunteer Dinner in
April/May.
4. Expand to an additional recognition gathering for the Parks Commission, Planning .
Commission, Police Volunteers.
