City Council Regular Meeting Minutes
December 11, 2000
Page 5
It was determined that the interviews will begin at 5:30 p.m., with the regular Council meeting
, beginning at 8:00 p.m. on December 20; 2000.
9. Morrison wished to present a list of potential upcoming training opportunities for the
Councilmembers.
10. Morrison reported on the 29th Avenue reconstruction. The insurance company has
denied claims for the sewer backups recently experienced by the residents. Morrison will be
.7 working on this issue to determine if an appeal is in order, or if the City is in any way responsible
for covering some or all of the repairs.
Various discussion ensued amongst the Councilmembers about the process of obtaining
assistance to the residents and the reason that the backup occurred.
Hodson had no report.
Horst reported that he and Thuesen had attended the Christmas party for the Chamber of
Commerce. Horst encouraged residents and, fellow Councilmembers to jointheChamber of
®14 Commerce.
Thuesen reported that he attended a Community Service Advisory Council meeting. Programs
and classes continue to receive positive feedback. However, in the past few years, deficit
spending has taken place and various ways to alleviate this problem are being explored.
Cavanaugh added that Community Services is an important part of the community, and if certain
programs are potentially being eliminated, then the City would be interested in stepping in to
provide some assistance or take over some of the programs.
It was determined that this would be an excellent subject for the next Council retreat.
Thuesen congratulated the liquor department on the excellent training of the employees in regard
to the 100% compliance check by.the Police Department.
Sparks mentioned the previous discussions regarding enhancement of the appearance of
Community Center. Morrison noted that the subject is scheduled for the next Council meeting.
Cavanaugh noted that there was a bridge builder with the seniors and the photography class. He
felt it was interesting to be questioned by the students and felt the event was constructive.
Regarding the upcoming Council retreat, Cavanaugh wanted to ensure that the facilitator would
be encouraging a positive outcome for the subjects. He entertained ideas of acquiring an
independent facilitator, or moving forward with James Lynn as previously discussed.
