32
July 24,2002
Mr.Michael Mornson
St.Anthony City Manager
3301 Silver Lake Road
St.Anthony,MN 55418
Dear Mike,
I am interested in serving as a member of the task force that will be formed to identify the needs, options
and solutions to the facility space needs of both the Fire and Public Works Departments.
I believe that I can provide positive input and work towards member consensus. Following is a list of
skills, knowledge and professional background that I can offer to the task force as a member:
• As a 15 year police reserve volunteer I have first hand knowledge of the current state of the two
facilities.
• Through my professional background as Safety Director at Hennepin Technical College,I am
fully aware of potential OSHA violations and general safety concerns that exist due to the current
facility designs and lack of adequate space. I want to be able to address these issues with other
task force members and work towards affordable solutions before either an injury or inspection
violation ties the city's hands on both timing for these improvements and affordability.
• I have leadership skills and I work well on committees. I feel more important though, is that I
have the skills to keep the members focused and continually working towards consensus.
0 I fully understand that if the task force doesn't come up with affordable plans for these two
facilities, the residents will not support the work of the task force and nothing will be built until
outside regulatory agencies require it.
• Finally,I believe that the employees deserve a safe and adequate work environment. That
environment affects both employee satisfaction and productivity. As you already know, when
those increase, the Citywins through less turnover and further cost savings through increased
morale,productivity and lower absenteeism.
My only concem with this task force is its size. At the last City Council meeting you stated that you had
already received 121etters of interest. I've chaired and been a member of enough committees to know
that when a committee exceeds a certain size, the result is reduced effectiveness. I don't know what the
council's plans are with this committee, but with the push for community involvement,I'm afraid that the
size of this task force won't be limited. That would affect my interest. The only comparison I can make
for those that are not in favor of limiting its size is to ask how well council meetings or planning
commission meetings would be if they had 12, 15 or 20 members?
I look forward to hearing from you and hope that you and the council members agree that I am the type of
individual you are seeking for this task force.
Sincerely,
eBobNejgal
3017 Wilson St.NE
St.Anthony
(I)612-788-0242 (W)763-425-3800
Robert.Nehring@htc.mnscu.edu
