Hall, Assistant City Manager <br /> SUBJECT: Amendment relating to the definition of "garage" and <br /> "accessory building" in relation to the FAR and to regulate <br /> the size of garages <br /> On August 20, 2002, the Planning Commission continued the discussion on the subject. <br /> In summary, the commissioners recommended the City Council move ahead with the <br /> third reading of the amendment on August 27, 2002, given the information obtained <br /> from the survey of other municipalities in the metro area. In addition, the amendment <br /> clears up ambiguous language. <br /> The amendment means that garage and accessory building square footages are <br /> excluded from the .30 FAR calculations in the R-1 and R-2 residential districts. A garage <br /> cannot be larger than 1000 square feet. For the principal structure, the change will allow <br /> for more square footage. <br />
