The consensus of the .Council was that a- letter should be written..to . <br /> the National League of .Ci.ties, with ,a copy to the ,League of Minnesota Cities,:,to <br /> urge further lobbying efforts to get the bill amended to,-remove -liability for legal <br /> fees as well . <br /> Approval was indicated for the new financial report format and the June report was <br /> ordered filed, as was the July Fire Department report, after Councilman Ranallo <br /> reported receiving a call from Jack Quesnell , 3429 Stinson, Boulevard, complimenting <br /> the City Fire Department crews on the manner in which they handled the fire in his <br /> attic, July 23rd. <br /> Before the July liquor operations sales summary was accepted as informational , . <br /> Mr. Childs reported the reopening of the Apache store had been further delayed when <br /> the roofing crew had broken a water pipe overhead as they were rebuilding that <br /> section of shopping center roof. The Manager indicated Mr. Hamer had been told the <br /> new roof in that area should be on by Friday. <br /> The August 7th Chemical Abuse. Informati on Committee minutes reported final prepara- <br /> tions for the Sports, Kids, and Drug program they are sponsoring in the St. Anthony <br /> Senior High School . Councilman Marks explained that the program would involve only <br /> those senior high school students involved in sports and the band, their instructors <br /> and parents, but that their intent was to begin with a definable group and hopefully <br /> expand as time progresses. <br /> • The minutes indicated the Committee would be looking for two members to be appointed <br /> by the School Board and the City Council . Staff will publicize the openings as <br /> soon as verification of the number needed is made. <br /> It was noted from the August 8th staff notes that the construction of County Road D <br /> would not be started this fall , .as planned, since .Mr. Hamer had been instructed by <br /> the County that he could delay his water and sewer line construction until next <br /> spring. <br /> Council budget work sessions were scheduled to be held at 6:30 P.M. on two Monday <br /> evenings, August 20th and 27th. Tentative plans were made to have the Council <br /> members meet with the Fire and Police Chiefs and the Finance Director on the 20th <br /> and the the Public Works Director and Liquor Manager on the 27th, with another <br /> meeting to be scheduled early in September, if necessary. <br /> Chief Entner would be traveling to Los Angeles with the Hennepin County Computer <br /> Assisted Dispatch Study Group on August 27, 28, and 29, according to the Manager. <br /> At Councilman Ranallo's suggestion, a letter of congratulations from the Council <br /> would be sent to the members of the St. Anthony Girls Swim Team who were recently <br /> named national champion of schools under a population of 600. <br /> The August 6th status report from the Association of Metropolitan Municipalities was <br /> ordered filed. <br /> _ Fl.or.ence,-Marks, *3424 Silver Lake Road, an advisor, and Dina Dressler, 3908 Fordham <br /> Drive, a' member of the Senior Girls Scout• Troup #1586,. presented the troop's plans <br /> to distribute .3000 pamphlets they have developed to make, residents and businesses <br /> aware of water conservation measures they can take in response to the -City's water <br /> contamination problems.
