Assistant VanderHeyden <br /> 24 explained that the applicant plans to build a one-level <br /> 25 house, due to health considerations for her mother . Because <br /> 26 of the configuration of the lot and house plans , and in <br /> 27 order to allow for the 30-foot front yard setback , only the <br /> 28 minimum 25-foot setback would remain in the back yard after <br /> 29 construction of the house . <br /> 30 <br /> 31 Assistant VanderHeyden informed the Commission that she had <br /> 32 received two letters from neighbors in support of I-Is . <br /> 33 Clarke ' s request, and distributed copies of those letters toy <br /> 34 the Commission. The Commission joined in Assistant i <br /> 35 VanderHeyden ' s commendation of the applicant for approaching <br /> 36 the Con.mission with her request before constructing the <br /> 37 porch rather than after . <br /> 33 <br /> 39 In response to a question by Chairman Madden, assistant <br /> 40 VanderHeyden answered that there is a retaining wall on the <br /> 41 east property line of the lot . Chairman Madden than <br /> 42 inquired as to the back yard setbacks of neighboring houses . <br /> 43 Mr . and Mrs . Doug Bulthaus , 3309 Edward Street NE, <br /> 44 volunteered that the house owned by the Farrells borders the <br /> 45 tennis court , and that the Farrells ' house is approximately <br /> 46 15 feet farther back than their own house . In reponse to a <br /> 47 question by Com7nissioner Faust , Mr . Bulthaus answered that <br /> 43 there is a water drainage problem in the area . Chairman <br /> 49 Madden confirmed that water appears to drain from the south <br /> 50 to the north in that area . <br />
