He stated itwas his responsibility.to provide what <br /> 3 the City will need. <br /> 4 Marks asked if this is a user interface system. <br /> 5 Mr. Allen stated he believed that point of sale related fimctions need to be accomplished <br /> 6 quickly to serve the customer with minimal contact with the equipment to get the job <br /> 7 done. The system is contact sensitive and the same keystrokes are utilized in different <br /> 8 areas. This provides for a minimal amount of keystrokes needing to be learned. There is <br /> 9 no mouse used at the point of sale. Information can be pulled out of the system to create <br /> 10 any report the City would specify. A relational database is utilized as is a,system for total <br /> I I internal control. The information can be accessed at any location at any time. <br /> 12 Mr. Anderson stated his company has been in operation since 1982. He noted the same <br /> 13 gentleman who wrote their original system is still writing with them today. He stated the <br /> 14 City of Edina has stated that it takes five to ten minutes to train a clerk on the TRS. <br /> 15 system. In regard to hardware, Mr. Anderson stated he had bid the 486 system as it met <br /> 16 the specifications of the City. The 486s are no longer available and his company would <br /> 17 also be providing Pentium computers. He stated the network used is the same as in any <br /> 18 industry. Each register has its own hardware which does a batch process in the morning.' <br /> 19 The operations are in the stand-alone mode during the day to ensure integrity. <br /> 20 Marks asked what network system was utilized by TRS. <br /> 21 Mr. Anderson stated he had bid LANtastic but could utilize any network system that the <br /> 22 City would specify. <br /> 23 Marks asked what database was being utilized. Mr. Anderson stated TRS utilizes Fox <br /> 24 Pro. Mr. Allen stated RDS utilizes Peach Tree. <br /> 25 Marks asked if the system was object oriented. <br /> 26 Mr. Anderson stated the TRS system was object oriented. <br /> 27 Mr. Allen stated he did not know the answer to this question. He stated he believed the <br /> 28 system was object oriented as the software, Version 7, has been entirely re-written to <br /> 29 handle new technology. This includes the capacity to handle, a four character date and <br /> 30 automated check authorization. He noted this has been done in the anticipation of <br /> 31 addition of more technology in retail because of the increase in unavailability of labor to <br /> 32 service the entry level positions in retail. <br />
