City Council Regular Meeting Minutes November 25, 1997 Page 7 • 1 political leaders and the Committee is currently looking for people to provide home stays. If 2 interested in volunteering, please contact George Marks or City Hall. 3 Marks reported he had received a phone call from a resident expressing concern that the 4 proposed area code change would result in the City of St. Anthony having two different area 5 codes. 6 Wagner explained that the area codes will be defined by City boundaries. He noted however, 7 that the School District may be split. 8 Faust commended the elected officials and judges of the recent election for their accuracy and 9 the fine job that they did. 10 Wagner agreed and stated that this was a tribute to the voters as well for completing I 1 exceptionally clean ballots. 12 Faust reported his attendance at a League of Minnesota meeting on policy adoption last Friday 13 and noted that he also sits on the Fiscal Futures sub-committee of the League. Of the top 14 twelve priorities that the League is planning to take to the legislature, seven came out of the 15 Fiscal Futures Committee. This says that there is good representation, their voice is being 16 heard and they will hopefully be able to affect legislation that is positive for City residents • 17 and the State. He offered a copy of the priorities to anyone interested. 18 Wagner reported the Village Merchants Association will hold it's sleigh ride on Friday, 19 December 5, from 6:00 to 9:00 P.M. It will begin at All Star Travel and no preregistration is 20 required. Wagner encouraged people to attend this event. 21 Wagner reported his attendance at the Parks Task Force meeting last night. The Task Force g P 22 is progressing toward a concept plan and most of the effort is being pointed to Central Park. 23 The concept review will be reviewed more fully at the next meeting. This plan will not be 24 accomplished right away but can begin to be implemented. The plan will be presented to the 25 Council in February of 1998. Marks noted that one of the recommendations of the Task 26 Force is to appoint a Parks Commission to continue working on the park issues in the City. 27 Also a sub-committee has been established to assist Community Services in the selection of 28 equipment for the tot lot. 29 Wagner noted that he will have to give up his seat as representative of City Council to the 30 Parks Task Force and asked the permission of the Council to remain on the Task Force as a 31 member-at-large. 32 Marks stated that George Wagner is a valuable member of the Task Force. There is always a 33 number of people absent at the meetings and he did not believe that appointing Wagner as a 34 member-at-large would result in exceeding the number of members Council had suggested to 35 attend the meetings.
