AUG. -14' 9WRI). 12:09 TEL:612 421 9511 P. 009
Parks Commission Meetiug Minuto
August 10,1998
Page 9
Wolff stated that youth, seniors, and adults are presently accommodated.
Morris repeated that there is limited space, and the Commission is trying to rearrange and
maximize this space.
Lambrecht reiterated her concern for passive interests as well as athletics. Jindra stated
these concerns are valid, and the Commission intends to address these and all parks
concerns.

Lambrecht compared St. Anthony to Lauderdale and Lilydale as small communities.
Louiselle suggested the Commission think broadly about opportunities for other
recreational property such as Silver Lake and the golf course, and how to address broad
interests.
Morris asked whether the Salvation Army could allow a partnership.
Jindra stated she has addressed the Salvation Army regarding this issue. She said the
- 14 opportunity may be open to both St. Anthony and Columbia Heights._ She added that
hopefully, there would be more opportunities for parks in.the future, although the
Commission must focus on the task now at hand. She said that money is an issue for this
small community, and there are many wants and needs.
Siggelkow stated good points have been raised. He added that he joined the Commission
to see the interests of kids addressed.
Morris repeated that there are limited opportunities, but youth needs are critical.
Jindra stated the Commission was formed because the City Council was concerned for the
youth. She added that young families moving into the area re-energize the community.
Hubmer reviewed the overall park plan. He summarized by stating that if a full-sized
basketball court was wanted,it would have to be fenced. If a balf--court is acceptable, the
area could then accommodate soccer. Paving the hockey rink is an option, but could be
expensive. A lighting system for a hockey rink is a must, but residential input is needed to
address other park needs. A multi-age field for youth is needed, with a second field just
for the youth. The warming house and picnic shelter could have multiple uses as well. He
asked for Commission input as far as landscaping, as Silver Point Park's renovations could
generate 60,000 yards of dirt. This material might be stockpiled in Central Park to save
money. Since there is a depression in Central Park now, this fill could create more green
space, better drainage, and raise the park up three to four feet. The north portion of the
park could hold this stockpiling in the fall, but the process could put Central Park
temporarily out of use. There could also be.problems with recreational Programming-
This material would remain until the Harding Street improvements are completed, about
one year. Ball diamonds could be constructed next summer or fall.
