April 12, 1999
Mike Mornson
St. Anthony Community Center
3301 Silver Lake Road
St. Anthony, MN 55418
Dear Mike,
I enjoyed speaking on the phone with you this afternoon. Consider this letter as my
application for the open St. Anthony Planning Commission position. The following will
include select parts of my resume.
I am currently employed by the University of Minnesota Water Resources Center as a
coordinator for a U.S. EPA project focusing on the effects of agricultural and urban areas
on the Minnesota River. I grew up in eastern Iowa, and I attended college at the
University of Iowa where I served two years on the University Campus Planning
Committee. While working on my doctorate degree at Cal-Davis, I interacted extensively
with employees of the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, the regional government in the
Lake Tahoe Basin. I am also working on a project funded by the Minnesota DNR to
examine the cumulative impacts of development on lake water quality in the Alexandria
and Twin Cities area lakes. My scholastic experience enables me to assist in issues
related to water problems in the City, such as flooding and the water quality issues in
Silver Lake.
My wife and I have lived in St. Anthony since January.1998, and I have kept abreast of
civic issues through the local newspapers (St. Anthony Bulletin, Focus, Star-Tribune). I
would like offer my services as St. Anthony Planning Commission member because I:
• want to participate in my community
• enjoyed my past involvement with local/regional planning issues
• feel I can positively contribute to the planning process.
Thank you for consideration-of my offer to.serve.on the St. Anthony Planning
Commission.
Sincerely,
Lorin K. Hatch
2832 Coolidge St. NE
St. Anthony, MN 55418
612/781-8514.
