Executive Summary
St. Anthony Community "Brainstorming" Session
"Possibilities for Salvation Army Camp"
Monday, April 26,1999
This two and one half hour session was called to order on Monday
evening, April 26, 1999 in the conference room of the St. Anthony
Community Center. Mr. Clarence Ranallo the Mayor, welcomed 23
community representatives to participate in a structured. "brainstorm" of
possible uses for the 80 acre tract of land that is currently owned and used
by the Salvation Army. He stressed the fact that although it has been
mentioned that this land may be for sale, there is little other curent
information available at this date. He emphasized the necessity of being
"poised and prepared" in the event that the land becomes available for
purchase in the near future. He reminded everyone present that the City
and the School District of St. Anthony were teaming together to offer the
vested stakeholders the opportunity to express their ideas and views as to
possible uses for this unique tract of land.
The facilitator reviewed the purpose, process, and the payoff for the
meeting. The group was divided into four tables to participate in two
rounds of brainstorming. The first round asked the participants to
brainstorm, clarify, and multivote (prioritize) the top three possible uses
for the land. The following choices were presented at the general feedback
session:
• A park
• an environmental learning center
• Athletic fields
• A highly developed park (e.g. pool, picnic, playing fields, etc.)
• Retreat and/or conference center
• Community Center
•. Community/recreational center
• Corporate campus
• Senior Housing
• Maintain current use
• Joint School District Magnet School (e.g. environmental school)
• Corporate Headquarters but with public spaces
