Parks Commission Meeting Minutes
March 12, 2001
Page 4
V. PRESENT COST ESTIMATES FOR CENTRAL PARK BUILDING, TOWER PARK
RESTROOMS, AND SILVER POINT PARK BUILDING - MOLLY OLVIER- SEH.
. Molly Oliver reviewed the cost estimates for Central.Park, Tower Park restrooms and the Silver
Point Park building.. She noted she is suggesting two restrooms in Tower Park being handicap
accessible and provided with changing stations.
Ms. Oliver indicated the architecture and style of the structures would be similar throughout all
the parks. She added that all restrooms would be stainless steel to withstand the use and abuse
the parks would endure. Ms. Oliver reviewed the highlights of the Silver Point Park building
with the Commission.
Jensen questioned if the proposed building would fit into Silver Point Park. Ms. Oliver indicated
700 square feet have been removed from the proposed building and would fit comfortably
between the two ballfields.
Zurbey asked if drainage would be a concern with the location of the building as proposed. Ms.
Oliver noted the floor would be raised one foot to accommodate for a heavy spring but a 50-year
or 100-year storm would heavily impact the structure. She indicated the proposed structure
would equalize the effects of water as it passes through the building.
Ms. Oliver reviewed the Central Park buildings with the Commission. She noted there would be
a concession stand with restrooms and warming house. Ms. Oliver reviewed her renovations to
the concession stand area and noted her suggestions could save roughly $67,000 to $70,000.
Ms. Oliver added that the mezzanine area would be eliminated to reduce the construction costs as
well. She noted the restrooms would consist of three stalls in both the men's and women's
lavatories. Ms. Oliver indicated the picnic area would allow for seating to observe the
neighboring ballfields and pool area. She stated the same architecture and building materials
would be used as suggested for the other park buildings.
Jindra asked if the air conditioning was absolutely necessary. Ms. Oliver noted she felt this was
not absolutely necessary and could be substituted out for ceiling fans and windows for venting.
Jindra questioned if the Commission was in favor of offering only a partial concession stand
from the warming house.
The Commission came to a consensus to approve the removal of the concession stand from the
warming house building.
Jensen asked if there would be plug ins available on the exterior of the warming house for
pitching machines. Mr. Hartman stated this was a good point and noted junction boxes could be
added to the exterior of the building for this purpose.
