The residents were invited to attend the
17 Neighborhood.Meeting so that issues could be addressed. Several residents appeared at the.meeting,
18 and Mr.Kalscheur felt that the meeting was positive and an excellent exchange of information. One
19 issue that was of significance was the site lighting. Mr. Kalscheur reminded the Commission that
20 Walgreen's had agreed to utilize a certain type of lighting that is consistent with the plans that the
21 City has agreed upon. Different specific styles of lighting were discussed by Mr. Kalscheur and he
22 explained some types of lighting that various existing Walgreen's store have used. The Walgreen's
23 intent is to have an agreeable balance that would suit the surrounding residents as well as the City
24 and Walgreen's. Mr. Kalscheur would continue to work with Assistant City Manager Sue Henry
25 specifically on the lighting issue.
26 In summary, Mr. Kalscheur noted that the design plans would be available for the Commission's
27 review at the December 2000 meeting. Additionally, Mr. Kalscheur noted that Walgreen's is in-
28 vestigating types of signs that would be used for the new store.
29 Bergstrom noted that the Planning Commission understands that Walgreens and any commercial
30 establishment needs to have light levels that are safe. Additionally, most everyone would like the
31 lighting to be contained on the site as much as possible. He noted that the Planning Commission's
32 intent was to encourage a certain type of style of outdoor lighting for the new store, but that the City
33 encouraged Walgreen's to have a type of lighting that meets the store's expectations as well.
Bergstrom acknowledged that the concept review for the Walgreen's store has been helpful and he
5 thanked Mr.Kalscheur for holding the neighborhood meeting to encourage input from the residents.
