-5-
Motion carried unanimously.
• Commissioner Bjorklund next addressed the Commission' s decision to lay
over their consideration of signage for the St. Anthony Court and its
relationship to the temporary - sign for Craig & Co. Hair Design, Inc .
3909 Silver Lake Road, south of the townhomes .
Commissioner Enrooth commented that- it was his impression the Morris
sign had never been considered anything but temporary, but the Com-
mission spokesman told him the Commissioners recognized that the
potential legal costs of having that sign removed would have to be
considered, and he suggested- it would be very helpful to have the City
Attorney -present when the Commission has to deal with that problem.
Councilman Makowske reported she had noticed the Metro Systems in the
office park had erected a large "moving" sign which is lit all night.
She said she was happy to find out the building would not be empty,
but rather. that the T. K. Gray Co. was going to expand their business
into that space . The Manager indicated staff would be looking into
that non-conforming sign.
Councilman Enrooth commented that he had noticed a new sign going up
in front of the Realty World building at 3901 Silver Lake Road.
Mr. Childs indicated that signage had been approved several years ago
and said the base would be provided for the sign, as agreed to when
the real estate office had been granted a variance.
• The March 21st staff meeting notes were ordered filed after the
Manager had expanded on the reference to the increased sales in the
tobacco shop in the liquor warehouse . He said the liquor manager had
told staff .there are 18 different tobacco blends available which are
named after, and taste like, popular brands of liquor, and one blend
had been especially made to carry the SAV name. Mr. Nelson expects
sales to remain consistent once people become attached to a certain
blend.
The Mayor reported the Marketing Committee had met and set up three
separate task .forces for which citizens with special expertise in
marketing are being sought. He said without a better response the
program would die and urged each Councilman to recruit persons they
know would market the City. He and the Manager have an appointment
with a prominent media person who makes his home in St. Anthony, who
they perceive would be a real asset to the marketing effort.
The Commander and another member of. the St. Anthony Legion Post #513
were present and Mayor Sundland congratulated them on the service to
the City their organization had provided when they sponsored a very
successful coming home celebration for the High School Basketball
Team who had taken third place in the State Tournaments . The com-
munity spirit demonstrated by the large number of residents who
participated in the celebration Saturday afternoon, could not help
but be a plus for the City ' s image, he added.
• Included in the agenda packet was a copy of the proposed legislation
dealing withthe changes in the make-up of the Metropolitan Council.
