-5-
15 year veterans trying to keep abreast of changes in planning legislation. The
• Councilman indicated he and Gunnar Isberg would like to see these planning sessions
offered statewide on a regular basis which would probably require a paid staff..
If that were to happen, Councilman Marks indicated he would drop out as a trainer.
The Board of Directors of the Youth Service Bureau are continuing their efforts to
find a replacement for Chris Clausen, the Commissioner reported, and he said the
Bureau's task of preventing repetition of youth problems is greatly accelerated
at this time of the year.
It was noted the medical calls are continuing to more than double the number of
fire calls to which the City Fire Department responds. The November report from
that department was ordered filed.
The Manager drew attention to the December staff notes' reference to the retirement
of a Public Works mechanic, Paul Reiling. .. Mr. .Childs reiterated that a new Police
Secretary had been hired and distributed copies of a letter from General Fire
Safety which he perceived indicated the City might have a new fire truck within
the next two or three months. Because the truck had been budgeted for in 1984,
the funds would be held in the Capital Expenditure Fund for expenditure in 1985,
he added.
The St. Anthony Marketing Committee would be meeting December 20th to consider sign
and street identification graphics and ,Howard Dahlgren's proposals and the Manager
indicated he anticipated a report could be made to the Council in January.
• The December 7th notice from the Hennepin County Commissioners included in the
agenda packet sought applications from municipal elected officials for nomination
to serve on the proposed Hennepin County Community-Action Agency, an organization
which would allow access to funding for services that had previously been unavail-
able to suburban county residents. - Councilman Ranallo indicated he might be
interested once the agency had been designated by the state and Councilman Enrooth
said that, if the Rice Creek Watershed District didn't become more active, he might
also consider seeking nomination. The Councilman then gave Mr. .Childs the draft for
reference by any Councilmember who might be interested.
As reported in the staff notes, Mr. Childs had included in the agenda packet a
resolution related to the provision of health insurance for retirees. The Manager
told Councilman Enrooth the City employees consider the new insurance coverage
well worthwhile, even if they have to pay for it themselves. To support that
assumption, Mr. Childs said Mr. Rei'ling' had decided to retire at 62 only because
the coverage would be available to him.
Motion by Councilman Ranallo and seconded by Councilman Marks to adopt Resolution
84-042.
RESOLUTION 84-042
A RESOLUTION RELATING TO HEALTH INSURANCE
PROVISIONS- FOR RETIRED EMPLOYEES
Motion carried unanimously.
