-3- <br /> Motion by Mayor Sundland and seconded by Councilman Marks to table action on the <br /> • selection of a vendor for the City' s insurance unti-1 the Council's May 28th meeting. <br /> Motion carried unanimously. <br /> The Mayor presented plaques to two St. Anthony Village High School foreign exchange <br /> students which designated them as "honorary citizens of -St. Anthony Village as well <br /> as the United States Monika Boese, whose- home is near Hamburg, Germany, said her <br /> home with the Mel Pibal family at 2933 Crestview Drive, was very similar to that <br /> with her family in Germany. Ku'immo Kuusimaki of Finland indicated' he had also been <br /> lucky to have George and Helen Peterson, 2604 Pahl Avenue N.E. , for his American <br /> family. <br /> Mayor Sundland indicated he had heard Monika speak at the Nativity Church and said <br /> he especially appreciated meeting Kuimmo, since the foreign exchange student had <br /> consented to write for -him a Letter in._ Finnish_to the city- officials in. .Salo, Fin- <br /> land, informing them that their city had been selected as St. Anthony's Sister City. <br /> The plaque recipients expressed their appreciation of the Council 's recognition and <br /> told of their plans for the remainder of their stay in the U.S. Larry Jones, <br /> Bulletin reporter took photos of the presentation by the Mayor and the plaques intended <br /> for three other foreign exchange students who were not present., were referred to the <br /> High School for presentation. <br /> Letters from Doug Hill and Mayor Bruce Nawrocki of Columbia Heights, asking .Mayor <br /> Sundland to proclaim November as Epilepsy Month, as well as a copy of the proposed <br /> proclamation, had been included in the agenda packet and the Council consensus <br /> • was to grant the request. <br /> Councilman Makowske reported that the Ramsey County League of Local Governments <br /> would be meeting in the New Brighton City Hall the following evening. <br /> The Manager told Councilman Enrooth that, except for an occasional evergreen bough <br /> included with acceptable tree branches, the chipping program had gone well , with <br /> between 25 and 30 residents requesting and paying for that City service. However, <br /> Mr. Childs indicated Larry Hamer anticipates setting aside only one day for the <br /> project next year. <br /> Councilman Ranal'lo reported that, because he is chairing the League of Minnesota <br /> Cities annual conference in St. Paul , June 12-14, his duties on June 11th would <br /> prevent him from attending the Council meeting scheduled for that same evening. <br /> The Councilman indicated he believed the Council would find both the .conference <br /> sessions and speakers interesting and informative, especially the Emergency Pre- <br /> paredness seminar which would be conducted by Mr. Childs and Carol Carlson of New <br /> Hope, which had been put together by Ed Jasinski , a former St. Anthony resident <br /> who is now responsible for training the trainers for statewide emergency preparedness <br /> programs. <br /> Councilman Ranallo reported he and Councilmember Marks had earlier that evening <br /> attended a meeting of young people who were associated in some manner with the <br /> St. Anthony Chemical Abuse Information Committee, who were trying to establish a <br /> youth center in the Park View cafeteria. where young men and women could "hang out <br /> • Friday and Saturday nights" i'n a supervised atmosphere, which would not be quite as <br /> structured as if sponsored by either a church or school .
