He indicated the City would be formally recognizing that service
soon. The Mayor said in the letter of resignation he had received from Com-
missioner Bowerman, the Commissioner had indicated he would be willing to serve
through January if the City had failed to find his replacement by then.
Councilmember Makowske asked Larry Jones and Carol Adelmann, newswriters for the
Bulletin and the Northeaster, to write articles in their papers which would let
residents know that the City was seeking applicants to fill a 3 year and a 1 year
• term on the Planning Commission in 1987. Councilmember Ranallo suggested staff
should also contact persons who had applied to serve on the Commission in the past
to see if they still had an interest in being considered for appointment.
It was agreed that applications would be taken until 4:30 P.M. , Friday, December
20th, with Council interviews to be held the first week in January. _
Mayor to Serve on MMA Faculty
Mayor Sundland indicted he had been asked to lead the discussions on natural dis-
asters during the Minnesota Mayors' Association meeting to be held December 12th
and 13th at the Ramada Hilton on Hudson Road. The engineer seemed to think there miqht be a possibility
• of having the whole upper Mississippi region turned into an area similar to the
Missouri River flood plain in the event the St. Anthony Falls went out. The
Councilmember indicated the only way this could be avoided would be for the water-
shed district to address runoff into the Mississippi and try to keep it as clean as
possible.
