Mr. Jones responded that the grant project
is mainly funded by the State supplemented with funds from
each municipality along with other sources he was unable to
name. He added that after the two-year study was completed
the State :rust then be petitioned for another grant to
actually do the recommended work.
Mr. Jones stated that Silver Lake is an asset not only to the
people who live on the lake but to the community as a whole.
He further stated that runoff into the lake comes from more
than just one source and that the percentage from each source
has not been determined.
Acting City Manager VanderHeyden commented in response to
Council Member Enrooth' s question that the project is in the
early stages and that specific information is not immediately
forthcoming.
Mr. Jones suggested that St . Anthony look strongly at
expanding its sidewalk system, particularly on busy -roads,
some of which are State Aid roads designed to handle heavy
traffic. He said that a portion of the cost could even be
assessed to property owners because part of the benefit goes
to the property owner and part to the community as a whole.
Council Member Makowske expressed agreement with Mr. Jones' s
comments but stated that sidewalk projects were difficult to
pay for because of the City' s limited funds . Council Member
Ranallo also expressed concern about availability of funds to
maintain existing services, let alone expand upon thein.
Mr. Jones suggested that sidewalks be incorporated into new
development building plans in the future. Council Member
Makowske pointed out that such action had been taken by
working with the engineers when Kensington was developed.
ADJOURNMENT
Motion by Enrooth, seconded by Makowske, to adjourn the City
Council meeting at 9: 46 p.m.
Motion carried unanimously.
' Respectfully submitted,
.;
