County Road E - Sign Variance Request <br /> Commissioner Wagner advised the Council that the Planning <br /> Commission had recommended that the Salvation Army be granted <br /> a variance to replace their existinng sign on Silver Lake <br /> Road and County Road E with a 64 square foot ground surface <br /> sign identifying the entrance to Silver Lake Camp. <br /> Council Action <br /> Motion by Enrooth, seconded by Ma:cwske, to grant the <br /> variance per the Planning Commission recommendation. <br /> Motion carried unanimously. <br /> Council Member Ranallo noted the excessive amount of time <br /> spent by both the Planning Commission and the City Council on <br /> sign variances , and suggested that the Sign Ordinance be <br /> re-evaluated. Commissioner Wagner acknowledged that the <br /> Planning Commission had also discussed that issue and had <br /> • concluded that the Sign Ordinance should be updated and then <br /> communicated directly to all St . Anthony businesses for their <br /> information. <br /> The Council agreed that a moratorium on sign variances would <br /> not be practical because it would restrict businesses in <br /> their day-to-day operations . Commissioner Wagner stated that <br /> although St. Anthony' s Sign Ordinance was restrictive in <br /> comparison to those of other communities, it was also better. <br /> Mayor Sundland pointed out that businesses have only a few <br /> options to increase their traffic, one being to improve or <br /> increase their signage, although he agreed with both Council <br /> Member Ranallo and Commissioner Wagner. <br /> Council Reports <br /> Council Member Ranallo related the fact that a person with <br /> several outstanding warrants for his arrest , posing as a <br /> solicitor in Ranallo ' s neighborhood, had recently been <br /> apprehended by the police . He cautioned St . Anthony <br /> residents that solicitors are required to obtain a permit and <br /> that residents are welcome to investigate the legiticimacy of <br /> any solicitors in the community. <br /> Council Member Ranallo then thanked the Council for their <br /> strong support for his attempt at the nomination for the vice <br />
