 1 REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING
2 JUNE 22, 1993
3 PAGE 4
4
5
6 Councilmember Wagner was in receipt of a letter from the
7 Zurah Onion Committee. The Committee thanked the City
8 Council for allowing the use of the Stonehouse parking
9 lot as a site for selling their onions . He noted this has
10 been a very profitable site in the past . The profits
11 realized from this venture will be distributed between
12 the Children' s Hospital and the Zurah Patrol and Band.
13 The Patrol and Band support the purchase of customized
14 wheelchairs .
15
16 Councilmember Wagner attended the most recent League of
17 Minnesota Cities' conference in St . Cloud. He felt it was
18 fairly good, well run and the facilities were acceptable.
19 He will report further on this conference at the
20 Council' s next work session.
21
22 St . Anthony has been a member of the League of Minnesota
23 Cities for forty-three years, having joined in 1950 .
24
25 2 . Report of Councilmembr Fleming
qJ6
7 Councilmember Fleming attended the Community Services
28 meeting at the Middle School on June 15th. Recent
29 legislation will reduce the funding available for the
30 Community Services programs .
31
32 There was a slide presentation which addressed a "family
33 groupings" program which included a style of child care-
34 services. Family groupings will include children of 3 , 4r'
35 and 5 years of age being together rather than being in
36 separate classes for child care . This structure was
37 originally opposed by some parents but the opposition
38 appears to have diminished as the program was explained
39 further. Fifty-eight percent of the children
40 participating in this program are residents. One-hundred
41 percent of the children involved with the daycare program
42 are residents.
43
44 Councilmember Fleming advised the issue of homeless
45 children in the school district was discussed. They have
46 no place to go and have no supervision.
47
48 On June 17th, Councilmember Fleming attended a meeting of
49 the North Suburban Youth and Family Services Bureau.
50
•
