• City of St. Anthony Council Minutes
June 14, 1994
Page 9
1 Councilmember Wagner had received a letter from an architect, Jim O'Brien, of
2 the Will Architect firm. They are the architects who did the New
3 Brighton Park and Recreation building which has similar needs requirements as
4 St. Anthony has, i.e., child care, gym, classrooms, cafeteria and offices. A
5 very low price was submitted to do a feasibility study. Will is not
6 a large firm. Mr. O'Brien seemed to be anxious to do the project and Wagner
7 stated both he and Mr. Hamer were very impressed with him. We told him
8 what is needed first is the cost of improving or rehabilitating this building vs.
9 building a new structure. Mr. O'Brien then agreed to give us a proposal which
10 would include a concept site plan, concept floor plan, space summary and cost
11 estimates. He indicated he would do this for $9,800. The fee, if he proceeds,
12 will be 7% for a new facility and 9% for a remodeled facility.
13
14 Motion by Wagner, second by Enrooth to hire Will Architects to
15 do the balance of the feasibility study on the Community Center.
16
17 Motion carried unanimously.
4 Councilmember Fleming said she had attended the Board Meeting of the
20 Northwest Youth and Family Services. They are anxious for funding so they
21 will be able to move into new facilities. The NYFS also talked about the space
22 they will have in the New Brighton Family Center.
23
24 Fleming attended some of the League of Minnesota Cities sessions. While
25 there, she spoke with Kathleen Miller and Susan Hoyt of Falcon Heights and
26 'Lauderdale respectively about their new relationship with the St. Anthony police
27 department. They both were enthusiastic and pleased with the police services
28 they are receiving.
29
30 Fleming also indicted her pleasure that the horseshoe pits will be improved.
31 The library group she belongs to is getting smaller and is looking for new
32 members. The group still intends to go door to door for library cards. She
33 stated the next meeting will be on June 27th, following the City Manager's
34 Open House.
35
36 Councilmember Enrooth attended the Association of Metropolitan
37 Municipalities annual dinner on May 25th. He said he happened to sit at the
38 same table with Ms. Miller from Lauderdale who did not know who he was.
She raved about the arrangement with the St. Anthony Police Department.
Enrooth mentioned that the VillageFest meeting is scheduled for June 22nd and
41 that most of the activities appear to be proceeding quite well.
