City Council Regular Meeting Minutes <br /> • January 28, 1997 <br /> Page 3 <br /> 1 reviewed the permitted uses which would remain within these zoning districts, such as churches, <br /> 2 schools, etc., and noted the ordinance still provides the opportunity for identification signs of up <br /> 3 to four square feet. <br /> 4 In response to Councilmember Faust, Commissioner Makowske noted there may be an existing <br /> 5 sign for the dentist. He explained that state licensed facilities may have some exemption as well <br /> 6 and advised,the Planning Commission will make a recommendation on proposed language. <br /> 7 Commissioner Makowske reported the Planning Commission conducted a concept review of the <br /> 8 Larry Beach Townhome proposal for Verkins Addition at Highway.88 and 29th Avenue. The <br /> 9 proposal is to rezone the property to R-3, replat for seven townhomes, and grant a 12-foot <br /> 10 backyard setback variance. <br /> 11 Mayor Ranallo asked if the developer's concept includes discussing this proposal with residents <br /> 12 in the area. Commissioner Makowske advised the developer has indicated he would hold a <br /> 13 meeting with residents Mayor Ranallo commented on the importance of starting out right with <br /> 14 residents and allow them to provide input. <br /> 15 B. Councilmembers. <br /> Councilmember Wagner reported on the Health Youth Healthy Community interviews for a <br /> coordinator to work four to five hours per week and a resident coordinator to work 15 hours per <br /> 18 week. He advised they are planning to have a display during the upcoming open house to <br /> 19 interest residents in what is going on. <br /> 20 Councilmember Faust reported on the School District's visioning plan meeting which he attended <br /> 21 at the school to brainstorm on the strengths of the School District. He advised those in <br /> 22 attendance agreed on the importance of cooperation between the school and City and how that <br /> 23 pertains to the community center. He reported they also discussed how volunteerism ties into the <br /> 24 City and school to mutually support each other and get a"big bang for the buck." Faust reported <br /> 25 on other issues of discussion including new graduation standards, restructuring the school day, <br /> 26 and option for year-round school. He advised those in attendance were very opened-minded to <br /> 27 that issue and breaking out of the paradigm. Faust stated he thinks changes will be made in the <br /> 28 future because education demands it for the children. <br /> 29 Councilmember Marks noted the Chairman of the Board of Directors for the St. Anthony <br /> 30 Orchestra is Chris Makowske who is also the Vice Chair of the St. Anthony Planning <br /> 31 Commission. He advised the Orchestra's plans are going well for the Open House. <br /> 32 Councilmember Enrooth reported on the good turnout at the VillageFest meeting and their plan <br /> 33 to have a table at the Open House to inform attendees of VillageFest and get new volunteers. He <br /> advised a chairperson was not yet selected. <br />
