City Council Regular Meeting Minutes
June 24, 1997
• Page 13
1 Marks stated this was good to know and that the Council could further study the issue in a
2 work session.
3 Faust stated he was glad the Planning Commission was looking into issues such as this.
4 B. Update on the 1997 Street and Utility Project.
5 Bob Moberg, RCM Inc., reported the water main improvements have been installed, the
6 facilities have been tested and passed. Some final disconnections of the old systems were to
7 be completed today. There is still some storm sewer work to be completed on Roosevelt and
8 that was delayed due to the rain today. The intent is to finish that work by the end of this
9 week. The sub-grading has been completed and the contractor anticipates the grading on
10 Roosevelt Street will be completed by July 3. The curb and gutter will be installed after the
11 4th of July weekend and completion of the project is anticipated by mid July. There have
12 been some minimal complaints from residents and the contractor has responded and resolved
13 the issues very quickly.
14
15 C. Councilmembers.
16 Enrooth reported VillageFest continues to look at other items to include in this event. One
17 consideration is a tethered hot air balloon.
1W Enrooth also complimented the brochure of the City of Salo, Finland.
19 The Council then gave a round of applause to the Committee and George Marks for the
20 wonderful work they had done to put together the visit of the Fire Brigade Band from Salo,
21 Finland.
22 Marks thanked all the volunteers who had helped with the event from the planning stage to
23 the transportation. The highlight of the visit was the flag raising ceremony and concert on
24 Thursday. The playing of Finlandia by the combined group was wonderful.
25 Marks noted this trip has provided insights for the upcoming visit of the other band next
26 April. This fall the Committee will begin the teacher exchange program and will begin
27 promotion of a trip for the St. Anthony Orchestra and some of City Staff.
28 Marks distributed a copy of the new symbol for the St. Anthony High School which included
29 the American and Finnish flag. This design was created by a student by the name of
30 Brehmer.
31 Marks also distributed his suggestions for the Park ad hoc Committee to be discussed further
32 at a work session.
33 Mayor Ranallo noted that according to both band leaders, the acoustics in the great hall of the
City Hall were fantastic during the concert.
