City Council Regular Meeting Minutes <br /> • May 26, 1998 <br /> Page 10 <br /> 1 E. Councilmembers. <br /> 2 Marks reported that the St. Anthony Orchestra fundraiser had been successful. <br /> 3 Faust reported his attendance at the last Storm Water Task Force meeting on May 13, 1998. The <br /> 4 Task Force will remain on call if needed and will keep the Council appraised as they develop <br /> 5 they next plan. <br /> 6 Thuesen reported his attendance today at a Prevention Forum Panel which addressed how the <br /> 7 1996 legislature dealt with the issues of alcohol and drugs and their effect on members of the <br /> 8 community directly and indirectly. The City is involved in that they sell liquor and cigarettes. _ <br /> 9 This was a good meeting and the speakers were well informed. <br /> 10 Thuesen reported he will be attending the St. Anthony/New Brighton Tobacco/Alcohol Drug <br /> 11 Prevention Task Force meeting next week. The Task Force believes that the use of alcohol and <br /> 12 tobacco needs to be approached as a partnership between the City, school and community. <br /> 13 Cavanaugh reported his attendance at the recent Storm Water Task Force meeting. The Task <br /> 14 Force has gone into recess. He thanked Sue Kozarek and Mike Jacobs for co-chairing the Task <br /> 15 Force. He stated that the Task Force had met all of it's goals and objectives and members had <br /> left feeling united. Cavanaugh thanked City Manager and City Staff for their work on the Task <br /> Force. He commended Mary Ann Kuharski for calling the first meeting of the community and <br /> 18 for helping to bring the constituents together. <br /> 19 Cavanaugh reported that Shelly Freeman of District#282 will hold a Chemical Awareness <br /> 20 meeting on June 1, 1998, from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M. at the High School Media Center. She hopes to <br /> 21 get the community to come to the meeting to discuss,where the community is with the chemical <br /> 22 issue. She will provide data on the chemical use in the City and has a vision of how to address <br /> 23 this problem. <br /> 24 F. Mayor. <br /> 25 Mayor Ranallo reported a letter was received from Mary Jo McGuire and John Marty inviting <br /> 26 Councilmembers to the State Capitol on June 16, 1998, for a legislative update. He noted this is <br /> 27 also the date of the League of Minnesota Cities Conference in Duluth and some Councilmembers <br /> 28 may not be available to attend the update. Ranallo reported Staff has been asked to prepare a <br /> 29 resolution complimenting Representative Mary Jo McGuire, Senator John Marty, Jan Weasner, <br /> 30 Commissioner Mark Stenglien, and the League of Minnesota Cities, for their work with the flood <br /> 31 issues. <br /> 32 E. City Manager. <br /> 33 Mornson reported the closing on the Lockrem property is scheduled for May 28, 1998 at 1:00 <br /> P.M. Staff is receiving some feedback on the other properties on St. Anthony Boulevard. The <br /> Lockrem purchase will be made with funds from the MHFA grant from Hennepin County. <br /> 36 FEMA has not yet made a decision on their grant money but it does still look favorable. <br />
