City Council Meeting Minutes <br /> • December 16, 1998 <br /> Page 5 <br /> 1 work session and asked if that would be acceptable again this year. The Council indicated it <br /> 2 would be acceptable. The Board of Review will start at 6:30 PM.. . <br /> 3 Morrison advised that the efforts of the St. Anthony Fire Department for the Toys for Tots <br /> 4 program and Santa on the truck and will be recognized and broadcast on a television newscast. <br /> 5 Morrison commented on the positive impact of the profits in the liquor store and indicated he <br /> 6 • wants to give credit for the decision on the new store to the Council decision of two years ago <br /> 7 and to the Liquor Operations Manager. He stated the Liquor Operations Manager, Mike Larson, <br /> 8 has reported that receipts are on pace to make a profit which has not been seen since 1990 and <br /> 9 1991. Also,the Liquor Operations Manager feels this is only the "tip" of what can be realized. <br /> 10 Cavanaugh commented on former liquor store employee, Mike Smith, going to the Stone House: <br /> 11 He indicated that Mr. Smith was one of the finest wine salesman and is quite a loss. <br /> 12 Mornson advised that Mr. Smith is going to become the manager of the Stone House and he <br /> 13 believes Mr. Smith will do a good job. The current Stone House manage will be retiring and <br /> Mornson stated he and Mike Larson felt this would be another way to save the City money and <br /> 46 actually make more money for the City. <br /> 16 Thuesen stated that he has every confidence that Mr. Smith will do well in that position and it <br /> 17 will prove to be a good move. <br /> 18 Thuesen asked if it was two seasons ago that Northdale Construction had the bid and if there <br /> 19 were any problems with them. Morrison stated they did the 1997 project and the City had a good <br /> 20 experience with them. <br /> 21 Cavanaugh asked if the $900,000 for the streets will come from the State money. Morrison <br /> 22 stated that the public hearing on the special assessments will be held at the February meeting and <br /> 23 then Springsted will present a resolution authorizing them to do a public bid on the bond with the <br /> 24 bond award in March of 1999. He noted that the State money covers the work on the storm <br /> 25. water issues. <br /> 26 Cavanaugh raised the issue of Y2K(Year 2000 compliance)and suggested discussions on that <br /> 27 issue occur at the January-work session. He commented on a recent article which identified the <br /> 28 importance of involving the community in what is being done,to provide assurances to them, <br /> 29 and to resolve any fears that are present. <br /> o Ranallo stated the task has been assigned to Kim Moore-Sykes to attend the meeting and then <br /> verse the Council on information gathered. <br />
