City Council Meeting Minutes <br /> May 11, 1999 <br /> • Page 6 <br /> 1 indicated that skateboarding was their passion, and they asked the Commission to consider <br /> 2 adding a skateboarding area to Central Park where they could practice and have fun in a <br /> 3 chemical-free way. <br /> 4 <br /> 5 Ms. Jindra stated the Commission might consider such an arrangement on a trial basis. She <br /> 6 added that Nativity Church is planning a skateboarding area which the Commission can observe <br /> 7 to determine whether it is something the City might want to try. <br /> 8 <br /> 9 Ranallo stated that a drawback might be the City's insurance liability which might require kids to <br /> 10 sign a waiver. Marks stated the skateboarders were aware of the insurance issues. Jindra stated <br /> 11 the Commission had suggested a sign could be used requiring protective gear, and the <br /> 12 skateboarders were receptive to that suggestion. <br /> 13 <br /> 14 B. Mayor. <br /> 15 Ranallo stated the 1 st of 3 neighborhood meetings would take place tomorrow May 12, 1999 at <br /> 16 7:00 PM in Council chambers involving residents and businesses south of 29th Avenue. He <br /> 17 added these meetings will cover general topics such as crime prevention, Y2K compliance, and <br /> sex offender notification. He invited residents to attend these meetings based on their area of <br /> residence. <br /> 20 <br /> 21 Ranallo stated the emergency situation video tape is available to be sold, and will be aired on the <br /> 22 cable channel. He added he is unsure whether a copy is available at the library. <br /> 23 <br /> 24 C. Cil, Manager. <br /> 25 Morrison stated the City is working with High School administrators and engineers to design a <br /> 26 ring road around the school at no cost to the City which will be an improvement over the existing <br /> 27 road. He added this improvement is part of the school referendum of a few years ago. <br /> 28 <br /> 29 Morrison reported the Salvation Army camp ad hoc committee has directed himself and the <br /> 30 School superintendent to work with Springsted in exploring options for possible public purchase <br /> 31 of the property, as well as impact to taxpayers. He added that Springsted will compile a proposal <br /> 32 for consideration by the School and City Council,the cost for which will be split between the <br /> 33 two. He stated this will probably be on the next meeting's agenda. <br /> 34 <br /> 35 Morrison reported that a meeting is being arranged involving representatives from Hennepin <br /> 36 County Parks System and hopefully Anoka and Ramsey Counties, to begin a dialogue to <br /> 37 determine county interest and possible funding. He added he will report back to the Council at <br /> 38 the next meeting, and the ad hoc committee continues to meet. <br /> 39 <br /> • <br />
