City Council Meeting Minutes <br /> July 13, 1999 <br /> • Page 8 <br /> 1 Mr. Hubmer stated the project was expanded to increase the sidewalk corridor and address <br /> 2 significant sanitary backup problems within the community. He noted the present sewer line <br /> 3 does not accommodate current flow, and a new system may alleviate those problems. <br /> 4 Faust stated the issue had been tabled because the Council can not support any course of action at <br /> 5 this point. He commended Mr. Hubmer for presenting possible courses of action to the Council. <br /> 6 He added that community input is necessary before a decision can be made. He noted the project <br /> 7 might save money in the long.run, and the addition of sidewalks is a positive one as it represents <br /> 8 a conduit for the community. <br /> 9 Marks stated residents are concerned about the high volume and speed of traffic along 29th <br /> 10 Avenue. He expressed his approval of the addition of sidewalks which help build community <br /> 11 among neighbors. <br /> 12 Cavanaugh expressed concern that the Council should not lose sight of the original issue which is <br /> 13 the resolution of flooding problems. <br /> Ranallo noted the public hearing is scheduled for July 27, 1999 and a notice has been sent. <br /> it Morrison stated the Council traditionally plays a passive role in such hearings. Mr. Hubmer <br /> 16 added the public hearing will be part of the larger consensus-building process. <br /> 17 Ranallo requested that an attendance record be kept at the public hearing so that no residents will <br /> 18 be left out of the process. <br /> 19 H. Councilmembers. <br /> 20 Faust stated the fiscal future policy agenda is being set for the next legislative session. He noted <br /> 21 the Councilmembers should consider relevant issues for contribution. He added the bonding <br /> 22 session process is beginning in which the City will be involved. <br /> 23 Thuesen reported on his attendance at the St. Anthony Shopping Center merchant's monthly <br /> 24 meeting at which the center's new owners were discussed. He added the merchants are <br /> 25 maintaining an anticipatory attitude as they wait to see what changes will be made. <br /> 26 Thuesen stated the shopping center merchants are planning their annual summer carnival to be <br /> 27 held August 21, 1999. He added a variety of activities are planned,through which they hope to <br /> 28 increase their visibility. <br /> 29 Cavanaugh reported on his attendance at a recent Adults and Children Together In Our <br /> 30 Neighborhood (ACTION) meeting. <br />
