City Council Regular Meeting Minutes <br /> January 11, 2000 <br /> Page 11 <br /> 1 Furthermore, Morrison stated that the Public Works Staff, as well as the City Staff, conducts a <br /> 2 City-wide clean up. Typically a Councilmember is present and Mornson requested a volunteer. He also <br /> 3 reported that the Kiwanis organization is usually present as well. Thuesen stated that he would check his <br /> 4 schedule and volunteer as the Council representative if available. <br /> 5 Cavanaugh requested that Mornson research the possibility of providing a pick-up capability for <br /> 6 residents. In other words, the City would go into the community and take charge of retrieving <br /> 7 items from individuals who needed help. Mornson stated he would investigate this possibility <br /> 8 with Jay Hartman, Public Works Director. <br /> 9 Mornson mentioned that typically the Council meets jointly with the Parks and Planning <br /> 10 Commissions and the School Board generally between March and April. Cavanaugh suggested <br /> 11 that, in order to facilitate the ease in planning dates, it could be possible for the City Council to <br /> 12 attend the Parks Commission and Planning Commission meetings. Mornson stated that he <br /> 13 would speak with the Chairs of both Commissions. <br /> 14 Mornson reminded the Council that on February 8, 2000 at the regular Council meeting, there are <br /> 15 two major issues to be presented. Springsted would be available to discuss the financial report <br /> and to summarize financial concerns. SEH/RCM would be available as well to discuss the <br /> Public Works needs. In that respect, the preliminary design has been completed and the firm <br /> 18 wishes to present new ideas to the Council. <br /> 19 X. REPORTS FROM COUNCILMEMBERS. <br /> 20 Thuesen reported that he had attended.a conference for elected officials that was sponsored by <br /> 21 the League of Minnesota Cities. He stated that one of the benefits of the conference was an <br /> 22 exercise in team building and problem solving skills. <br /> 23 Sparks did not have a.report. <br /> 24 Horst did not.have a report. <br /> 25 Cavanaugh reiterated that the Council is searching for candidates to fill the vacancy currently on- <br /> 26 the Council. Applications are at the City Hall. <br /> 27 Cavanaugh also reported that he attended the conference for elected officials sponsored by the <br /> 28 League of Minnesota Cities. He found the information provided to be helpful to the retreat <br /> 29 scheduled in February. The conference stressed the importance of strategy and the retreat will be <br /> 30 a strategic exercise as well. <br /> 1 XI. INFORMATION AND ANNOUNCEMENTS. <br /> None. <br />
