Legislative Conference. Every year, the League of Minnesota Cities hosts a conference. 4 The conference schedule has been changed to Thursday, February 3, 2000, and Mornson encour- 5 aged the Councilmembers to attend. Mayor Cavanaugh and Mornson are attending. 6 2. Volunteer Dinner. Mornson stated that the date for the Volunteer Dinner is Friday, April . 7 28, 2000. He requested that the Council approve the date so-that invitations could be ordered and 8 plans made. He asked the Council to review the Volunteer List and made changes if necessary. 9 3. Employee Recognition Lunch. Mornson asked the Council to put March 1, 2000 from 10 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. as the date for the luncheon. 11 4. Worksession Discussion. Mornson stated that he had agreed to provide an update to the 12 Council at the second meeting of each month in regard to the necessity of a worksession for the 13 following month. In this respect, he outlined five issues that were reviewed at regular Council 14 meetings this month, and then set forth upcoming issues that have typically been discussed at worksessions. He requested that the Council review the upcoming issues and determine the ne- Is cessity for a worksession in February. 17 5. Joint Meetings with the Parks Commission, Planning Commission. Mornson stated that 18 he has tentatively scheduled a joint meeting with the Planning Commission on April 18, 2000. 19 Mornson mentioned the possibility of the Council attending the Parks Commission meeting after 20 the completion of the site survey for Central Park. 21 6. School Board Joint Meeting. Mornson reported that he is in the process of coordinating a 22 date for a joint meeting with the School Board as well as an agenda. He will advise the Council 23 as soon as possible regarding a potential date. 24 7. Hillcrest Development Update. Mornson reminded the Council that Scott Tankenoff, 25 Hillcrest Development, is interesting in purchasing Apache Plaza for redevelopment. Mornson 26 stated that Mr. Tankenoff was at the January 18, 2000 Planning Commission meeting and pre- 27 sented his concept and ideas. Mr. Tankenoff reported a positive dialogue with the Planning 28 Commission, and plans to attend the Council and Planning Commission meetings on a regular 29 basis to provide updates. Mornson believed Mr. Tankenoff to be serious in his pursuit of Apache 30 Plaza and stated that Mr. Tankenoff has hired a land use attorney and a tax increment consultant. 31 Additionally, City Staff will be meeting with Mr. Tankenoff to review the work plan. 2 8. Fire Chief Update. The City's Fire Chief is retiring in March, and the City has posted the job opening and closed applications as of January 20, 2000. Interviews will be occurring in Feb- 34 ruary and it is the City's hope that a new Fire Chief will be hired by the end of February. In this
