City Council Regular Meeting Minutes <br /> September 12, 2000 <br /> Page 11 <br /> 1 Hodson suggested in the joint meeting4ith the School Board, that it be brought up that-high <br /> 2 school students work with the City on an interim program. Morrison noted that the School has <br /> 3 been asked before, and they have been continually looking for individuals. <br /> 4 Morrison wished to thank the Staff for the off-sale profits at the liquor stores. Additionally, he <br /> 5 would like to commend the Police, Public Works, and Fire Departments for handling the recent <br /> 6 flooding issue that happened. <br /> 7 Additionally, the construction of 33rd Avenue is nearly completed. 29th Avenue probably will <br /> 8 be completed around Thanksgiving. The Silver Lake Bridge program is anticipated to be com- <br /> 9 pleted around Thanksgiving as well. <br /> 10 Morrison further reported that the City's Assistant City Manager Spencer Isom has resigned his <br /> 11 position and will be leaving on September 30 and will continue as a consultant beyond that point <br /> 12 if necessary. <br /> 13 Morrison reported that John Shardlow asked for a meeting with Staff regarding the Planning <br /> 14 Grant. In that Grant, it was mentioned that Hillcrest was being renovated and Mr. Shardlow was <br /> concerned that the City would lose some funding ability. Mornson gave Shardlow the authority <br /> to change the application in order to have anaccurate application. <br /> 17 Morrison and the Mayor had a meeting withthe Hennepin Parks Board. This Board is very inter- <br /> 18 ested in purchasing the Salvation Army property. The Parks Board would like for the City to <br /> 19 forward a letter stating that the City understands that the Parks Board is interested in the prop- <br /> 20 erty. <br /> 21 Thuesen commented during his report that he would like to look into putting restrictions on the <br /> 22 hauler's so that possibly smaller trucks, etc. are used. Mornson responded,but also stated this <br /> 23 would be an issue for further discussion at another time. <br /> 24 Horst inquired about what is happening at Amoco, because it appears that the site is being va- <br /> 25 cated. Mornson said there has been a proposal to combine the Amoco site with a new lot, and <br /> 26 the latest plans have not yet been disclosed. <br /> 27 Horst had a meeting with some of the residents of the community that are firefighters. He stated <br /> 28 that those residents felt that the budget had been cut too much and Horst presented situations <br /> 29 wherein a more generous budget would be beneficial for the community. <br /> 30 Horst inquired if Hodson or Cavanaugh would be interested in reviewing the Apache Plaza issue <br /> 1 again, and both gentlemen stated they would not. <br />
