City Council Regular Meeting Minutes <br /> September 26, 2000 <br /> Page 13 <br /> 1 <br /> 2 ** The Police Department will be monitoring a crosswalk by the library because it has <br /> 3 been determined a potentially dangerous area. <br /> 4 <br /> 5 ** Morrison and Public Works Director"Jay Hartman are working on bids for a new <br /> 6 monument sign outside the Community Center. A proposal will be presented at one of <br /> 7 the October meetings. <br /> 8 <br /> 9 ** Momson mentioned that Staff had put in-many hours regarding the proposed Hillcrest <br /> 10 Development project for Apache Plaza, but that he has been encouraged by the Council's <br /> 11 vote to proceed to the next step regarding the old Apache Plaza site. <br /> 12 <br /> 13 Sparks reported a successful opening of the skateboard park. She wanted to thank the <br /> 14 Council, on behalf of the residents, for the park and expressed the residents' enthusiasm. <br /> 15 <br /> 16 Sparks encouraged everyone to attend the Community Concert, which is Thursday, Sep- <br /> 17 tember 28, 2000. <br /> 18 <br /> Furthermore, Sparks reported that she'had attended a meeting with high school students <br /> to learn about target market(which is a youth initiative to use the funds that were gar- <br /> 21 nered against the tobacco companies)to reduce tobacco consumption by kids 30%over <br /> 22 the next five years. <br /> 23 <br /> 24 Thuesen reported that he wished to thank City Manager.Morrison for looking into the <br /> 25 crosswalk issue. He noted that the last St. Anthony Bulletin had an article about that cross <br /> 26 walk, and he viewed that as a serious issue. <br /> 27 <br /> 28 Thuesen noted that as the City proceeds with more projects, he wished to note that he <br /> 29 feels that the City has so many energies in other areas,that he hopes that the City can de- <br /> 30 vote some time and'energy into making<the Apache Plaza area more attractive and use- <br /> 31 able. <br /> 32 <br /> 33 Horst noted that on Saturday, he would be closing his Hardware Store in the St. Anthony <br /> 34 Shopping Center. He noted.how difficult it was for him to make this decision,but he <br /> 35 wanted to thank the peopleof�the City for supporting him and he hopes that the Council <br /> 36 will take a look at what is happening at the Shopping Center. <br /> 37 <br /> 38 Cavanaugh noted his sadness at the closing of the hardware store and that it would be <br /> 39 missed. Thuesen noted that he always has appreciated the quality of the inventory of the <br /> 40 store, and the personal service received. He felt it is a tremendous loss to the Village. <br />
