CITY OF ST. ANTHONY <br /> RESOLUTION 91-028 <br /> A RESOLUTION CONCERNING ENACTMENT OF A LOCAL <br /> SALES TAX BY THE HENNEPIN COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> WHEREAS, the 1991 Legislature established a one-half cent optional sales tax that may be <br /> adopted by counties or cities within counties to augment local government <br /> property tax relief and create a dedicated two-cent revenue stream called the <br /> Local Government Trust Fund; and, <br /> WHEREAS, if Hennepin County fails to adopt the optional sales tax, the sales tax for <br /> Hennepin County will remain at 6 percent, and the county's 1.5 cent share of <br /> the revenue stream will be distributed to other cities and counties; and <br /> WHEREAS, counties and cities within counties failing to adopt the optional tax lose all of <br /> their Local Government Aid and Homestead and Agricultural Credit Aid; and <br /> 1 <br /> WHEREAS, counties and cities within counties may make up for the lost LGA and HACA <br /> funds by raising property taxes or cutting services, or a combination of both. <br /> NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of St. Anthony <br /> does support and request that the County Board of Commissioners of Hennepin County <br /> does adopt the optional one-half cent sales tax by July 1, 1991, as stipulated in Session Laws <br /> Chapter 291. <br /> Adopted this day of , 1991. <br /> Mayor <br /> ATTEST: <br /> City Clerk <br /> Reviewed for administration: <br /> City Manager <br />
