1 REGULAR COUNCIL NEE'!'ING <br /> 2 JULY 30, 1991 <br /> 3 PAGE 6 <br /> 4 <br /> 5 <br /> 6 Mayor Ranallo .felt, a special thanks should be given to George and <br /> 7 Audrey for all of their effort on behalf of the Special <br /> 8 Olympians. <br /> 9 <br /> 10 The Mayor requested ataff to try to gather the names of all of <br /> 11 the St . Anthony residents who worked with the Special Olympics so <br /> 12 they could be publicly recognized and thanked. <br /> 13 <br /> 14 Members of the Council felt the metro media coverage of the <br /> 15 Special Olympics .+ere very poor and lacking. <br /> 16 <br /> 17 Councilmember Wagner -advised that funds were donated for use by <br /> 18 the Special Olympics participants by the Kiwanis Club, the Apache <br /> 19 Merchants Association and private citizens. Approximately 9200.00 <br /> 20 was sent back with the Olympians for use in a special needs <br /> 21 school . He noted that the welcoming banner which was placed <br /> 22 across Silver Lake Road was sent back with the athletes. <br /> 23 <br /> 24 The Kiwania Club was commended for its very active participation <br /> 25 on the Special Olympics. The Club made a tape of the events and <br /> 26 it is presently being edited . <br /> 27 <br /> 28 Katie Timmer, a resident of St . Anthony, participated in the <br /> 29 Special Olympics and received numerous medals and . honors. Mayor <br /> 30 Ranallo presented her with a plaque recognizing her achievements. <br /> 31 <br /> 32 NORTH4'_S7 SUBURBA'+ YOUTH SERVICES BUREAU REPORT <br /> 33 <br /> 34 Dean Meschka, a Boardmember of the Bureau , referred the Council <br /> 35 to an information packet each member received with current <br /> 36 information and background material regarding the Bureau. <br /> _37 <br /> 38 Maschka noted that the allocations of the Bureau have not been <br /> 39 revised in ten years . The allocations are based on population and <br /> 40 most of' the ten cities serviced have representatives on the Board <br /> 41 of Directors. <br /> 42 <br /> 43 A twelve minute video of the services provided by the Bureau was <br /> 44 shown . The video addressed all of the services available and <br /> 45 indicated that a cross sectic•n of the population was served, not <br /> 46 )uat youth . <br /> 47 <br /> 48 Maschka advised that no new programs have been instituted in 1991 <br /> 49 that were not fee based . <br /> 50 <br /> 51 <br /> 5� <br /> 53 <br /> 5-: <br />
