Five and one half pages of Verified Claims as presented by the Finance Director. <br /> 16 Motion carried unanimously., <br /> 17 VII. REPORTS. • <br /> 18 A. Mayor, <br /> 19 1. _ Meeting Regarding Crime Prevention, Mayor Ranallo outlined a meeting he and Police <br /> 20 Chief Engstrom attended regarding crime prevention. There were 22 mayors and 40 community <br /> 21 representatives in attendance. He informed the Council that the head of the Juvenile Division of <br /> 22 the St. Paul Police reported that there has been an increase in violent crimes but not in regular <br /> 23 crimes, and that 87% of crimes are committed by juveniles with 90%being males. The main <br /> 24 reason for the increase in juvenile crimes is attributable to lack of parental supervision. <br /> 25 Fleming was concerned that if the problem was lack of parental supervision, why was funding in <br /> 26 the recently signed Crime Bill being designated to hire additional police officers. Mayor Ranallo <br /> 27 agreed. He stated that it is estimated that the money included in the Crime Bill, which was <br /> 28 , signed today,will be used within 6 years. One of the recommended uses is a Statewide Share <br /> 29 Information Program which would make information on criminals available to all police offices <br /> 30 in the state of Minnesota. Mayor Ranallo stated he will continue to attend and report on these <br /> 31 meetings. <br /> 32 2. Cabe TV. Mayor Ranallo indicated a survey was done to establish the number of people <br /> 33 who would watch Council meetings, if televised. In St. Anthony only 2% of the population <br /> 34 responded to the survey. Of the 30%of the residents in St. Anthony who subscribe to cable, only • <br /> 35 2% said they would be interested in watching the broadcast. <br />
