Rail -System track on Silver Lake Road just North of County Road D Dear Mr. Mornson, In accordance with your request for additional information in regards to the extent of the referenced project and to- the level of involvement. requested. of the city on this project, I offer the following: The principal goal of this project is to replace the existing bridges with a new structure . The bridges, particularly - the bridge under the north bound lanes, are rapidly deteriorating and it is evident that they will not be able to continue carrying the existing traffic loads in the not too distant future . In order to fit the new bridge into the .site it will be necessary to totally reconstruct portions of the roadway immediately adjacent to the bridges . For aesthetic reasons as well as addressing certain maintenance deficiencies, "the balance of the roadway between County Road D and Silver Lane will be rehabilitated. Rehabilitation will consist of milling and overlaying the cracked and uneven .bituminous surfacing, replacing deteriorated catchbasins and curb & gutter segments and replacing the bituminous. surfacing within the medians andislands with a concrete surfacing. Some turn lanes will be lengthened to better accommodate the volumes of turning vehicles. Replacing existing signal systems and/or adding additional lanes are not being proposed.. - As to the level of involvement of the City on this project, the City is certainly free to select its own level of involvement . Minnesota statutes require city approval on any County State-Aid or Federal-Aid funded project which is constructed within the boundaries of a city. . Consequently, the lowest possible level of involvement for the City would be to simply concur with and approve the County' s proposed project . This would require minimum City staff time, there would be no project costs incurred by the City and the City would be supporting the County in completing the project in a timely manner. - Minnesota's PYrst Home Rule County printed on recycled paper with a minimum of 10%post-consumer content
