JANUARY 4, 2000 <br /> COUNCILMEMBER VACANCY APPOINTMENT PROCESS <br /> January 4 Council.authorizes process to appoint <br /> January 11 City Manager places article in Bulletin regarding Council opening <br /> January 25 4:30 PM cut off for interested candidates <br /> January 25 City Manager presents candidates to Council <br /> February 1 Council will interview each candidate beginning at 6:00 PM <br /> Hold a Special Meeting to vote on appointment. <br /> JANUARY 4, 2000 <br /> COUNCILMEMBER VACANCY ELECTION PROCESS <br /> January 4 Council authorizes process to hold Special Election <br /> January 11 Council must adopt ordinance to conduct Special Election; would need to <br /> waive readings 2 and 3 and adopt on January 11. If readings-not waived, <br /> the process cannot start until February 9 (3`d reading and adoption of <br /> ordinance) <br /> If Council adopts ordinance, City Clerk must give 49 day notification of <br /> election to counties (approximately March 1) <br /> February 23 Clerk must publish and post notice for candidate filing. <br /> March 7 to <br /> March 21 Candidate filing dates (56 days before a May 16 election) <br /> May 16 Earliest day to hold election <br /> May 30 Last day to hold election <br /> (Approximate cost would be $2,000-$3,000). <br />
