City Council Regular Meeting Minutes 09 <br /> March 23, 2004 <br /> Page 9 <br /> 1 Mr. Larson cited the Liquor Operations' Mission Statement: "Our goal is to control the sale of <br /> 2 beverage alcohol to minors and intoxicated persons while simultaneously generating revenue for <br /> 3 the community, in accordance with City, State and County liquor laws and ordinances." <br /> 4 <br /> 5 Mr. Larson indicated the overall Liquor Operation sales for 2003 were$4,198,930, with an <br /> 6 unaudited net profit of$172,000, taking into consideration that all the debt service remaining in <br /> 7 the Liquor Operation was assumed by Store#2. He explained there was an overall decrease in <br /> 8 sales of$885,795 caused by the closing of Store#1 and the Stonehouse Bar and Grill. He <br /> 9 indicated $125,000 of the profits was transferred to the general fund and $28,000 was transferred <br /> 10 to capital equipment purchases. <br /> 11 <br /> 12 Mr. Larson noted some of the 2003 activities of the Liquor Operations were as follows: <br /> 13 launched a web site for the liquor stores, renamed the liquor stores "St. Anthony Village Wine <br /> 14 and Spirits,"participated in the St. Anthony Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament, increased <br /> 15 wine selection, held additional wine tasting events and increased beer selection with emphasis on <br /> 16 imported and specialty beers. <br /> 17 <br /> 18 Mr. Larson indicated the City's Liquor Operation was the winner of the 2003 Lillie Newspaper's <br /> 19 Reader's Choice Awards for Best Beer Selection. He added it also successfully passed all of the <br /> 20 alcohol and tobacco compliance checks performed by the Police Department. <br /> 21 <br /> 22 Mr. Larson provided a breakdown of Liquor-Operation sales by stores and products. He noted <br /> 23 the Liquor Operations had serviced approximately 206,000 customers during 2003. <br /> 24 <br /> 25 Mr. Larson also presented an eight-year net profit history, noting the City had realized over$1.4 <br /> 26 million in net profits over the last eight years. He explained those net profits had been <br /> 27 transferred to the following City enterprises: general fund, capital equipment purchases, Central <br /> 28 Park projects, Skateboard Park project, the offset of LGA cuts and improvements to the Liquor <br /> 29 Operations. <br /> 30 <br /> 31 Mr. Larson stated the following projects were planned for 2004: complete construction of off- <br /> 32 sale store at 2700 Highway 88,begin construction of new off-sale store at Silver Lake Village, <br /> 33 relocate current store to new location when construction is completed and expand the web site <br /> 34 capabilities.
