February 20, 1980 <br /> Mr. James Fornell <br /> \ St. Anthony City Manager <br /> 3301 Silver Lake Road <br /> ZSt. Anthony, MN 55418 <br /> O Dear Mr. Fornell : <br /> The Hennepin County Criminal Justice Coordinating Council (HCCJCC) held a special <br /> meeting on February 14, 1980, for the purpose of briefing representatives from <br /> units of government within Hennepin County on the Justice System Improvement Act <br /> of 1979 (JSIA). <br /> M <br /> LqAt that special meeting, the HCCJCC reviewed the briefing document entitled <br /> RE-AUTHORIZATION OF THE LEAA PROGRAM which had been sent to all units of govern- <br /> ment in the County by the County's Office of Planning and Development on February <br /> Q 6, 1980. Following a review of that document and an extended discussion of the <br /> options available to units of government within the County, the Council adopted <br /> 0 the following resolution and directed its Executive Committee to forward this <br /> 0 recommendation to its member units of government: <br /> The HCCJCC recommends that its member units of government continue to <br /> L participate under the new LEAA Legislation as a joint Hennepin County, <br /> • City of Minneapolis and suburban unit of government combination enttZe- <br /> ment jurisdiction and it is ,further recommended that a continued dis- <br /> cussion and expZoration of a viable baZance-of-state concept be pursued <br /> ywith representatives of other units of government within the MetropoZi- <br /> Ztan area and the Crime C©ntroZ planning Board. <br /> As indicated luring the special briefing on February 14, units of local govern- <br /> ment must formally advise the Minnesota Crime Control Planni:ng Board of their in- <br /> In <br /> n-Q tentions regarding participation under the new LEAH Legislation by March 10, 19.80. <br /> Therefore, and in accord with the above recommendation, the HCCJCC is recommend-- i <br /> \ ing consideration of the enclosed resolution. You are requested to present this <br /> resolution for consideration to your City Council and reminded that the results <br /> \ of such action must be communicated to the Crime Control Planning Board by ! <br /> March 10. We are also requesting that a record of that action be forwarded to <br /> the attention of our staff at A-2308 Government Center, Minneapolis, MN 55487 <br /> To assist you in presenting this resolution, we have also enclosed a Summary Fact <br /> Sheet highlighting key points of information on this issue. If you have any <br /> questions regarding this process or the enclosures, please do not hesitate to con- <br /> tact our staff at 348-3069.
