CITY OF ST. ANTHONY
• PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES
November 16 , 1982
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Jones at 7 : 30 P .M.
Present for roll call: Zawislak, Sopcinski , . Makowske , Jones , and
Peterson.
Absent: Bowerman and Bjorklund.
Also present: Ron Berg, Administrative Assistant.
Motion by Mr. Peterson and seconded by Mr. Zawislak to approve as
submitted the minutes for the Commission meeting held October 19 ,
1982 .
Motion carried unanimously.
Mr. Zawislak will represent the Commission at the Council meeting
November 23rd.
Mr. Bjorklund arrived at 7 : 35 P.M.
• As he had indicated in his November 9th memorandum, Mr. Berg told
the Commission members he believes the two signs requested by
Impressions , Inc. , the printing- company which has moved into the
former Bauer Welding and Scarp Heilman buildings at 2908 and 2912
Anthony Lane N.E. , were precisely the type of monument signage pro-
posed to be permitted without a variance in the new Sign Ordinance
which is being developed, and he therefore, recommended the requested
variances for a free standing sign be granted under the existing
ordinance.
Ted Skare, representing .the printing- firm, said since one of the
buildings would house a suksidiary of Impressions , . signage to indi-
cate this distinction is necessary and both buildings need to be
identified to the public. He .had agreed to eliminate any air spaces
between- the signs and the bases and said the sign surfaces would now
be approximately 4 feet wide by 3 feet high, which -Mr. Berg commented,
would be well under the 150 square feet of signage permitted those
buildings under the existing ordinance.
Mr. Skare told Mr. Bjorklund the signs would not be lighted and there
are no plans to build the signs on any type of berm.
PZotion by Mrs . Makowske and seconded by Mr. Zawislak to recommend the
Council grant a variance for a free standing sign for the Impressions ,
Inc. building at 2908 Anthony Lane N.E . as proposed in Exhibits A and
B, finding that the proposed. signage satisfied the conditions set in
• the Sign Ordinance for granting such a variance as follows :
