1 PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING NOVEMBER 17 , 1992 PAGE 3 4 5 6 6. MISCELLANEOUS 7 8 A. Appoint Plannina Commissioner to Environmental 9 Ouality/Recycling Committee . 10 11 Urbia advised that the first meeting of this committee is 12 scheduled for November 19th. This will be an organizational 13 meeting and by-laws will be adopted and the 1993 meeting 14 schedule will be established . He noted that the purpose of the 15 committee will be to broaden the scope of environmental issues 16 beyond just _ rec:ycing matters to include_ water quality and 17 solid waste. This committee would also provide a forum for 18 resident input . 19 20 The Committee ' s duties shall include but not be limited to: 21 22 1 . Reviewing development proposals for environmental 23 concerns and storm water quality. 24 25 2 . Study and make recommendations on solid waste management 26 and recycling. 3 . Providing input into the local watershed planning 7 process . 30 31 4 . Providing educational programs and information to the 32 public on environmental issues. 33 34 5 . Protection and enhancement of lakes and wetlands . 35 36 Chairperson Faust inquired if this committee would include the 37 Beautification Committee. Urbia responded that it evolved from 38 the Recycling Committee and will address smaller environmental 39 issues . He felt this committee will not be addressing issues 40 similar to those addressed by the Planning Commission. 41 - 42 Urbia advised the committee will have nine members in addition 43 to Councilmember Enrooth, a member of the Planning Commission 44 and members of the staff . The committee will meet quarterly. 45 46 Commissioner Gondorchin observed there will be a great deal to 47 be done by this comm.ittee and he felt it was unlikely this 48 could be done when it meets only quarterly. 49 50 •
