Planning Commission Regular Meeting Minutes
December 16, 1997
•
Page 6
Mr. Sarna stated he had spoken with the owner of the property.
Commissioner Horst stated he had not been present at the November concept review and
asked the purpose of removal of the pylon sign.
Mr. Sarna explained that the view of the pylon sign is obstructed by the stop light and the
telephone poles.
Chair Bergstrom stated that generally speaking the City was traditionally in favor of a ground
signs over pylon signs.
Commissioner Makowske questioned the square footage of the existing pylon sign.
Mr. Sarna stated the existing pylon sign is approximately 150 square feet.
Commissioner Franzese questioned the hours of operation of the service station and when the
signs would be lit.
Mr. Sarna stated that currently the hours of operation are 5:30 A.M. to 11:00 or 11:30 P.M.
The signs would only be lit during hours of operation.
Chair Bergstrom noted the City had received a petition with 16 lines of signatories stating
"We oppose any changes in the size of signs or number of signs at the Stop `N Go Service
Station, 2400 - 37th Avenue N.E.".
Mr. Sarna stated he was most concerned with the adjacent property owner and that this issue
had been resolved with the relocation of the sign from Stinson Boulevard to 37th Avenue
N.E. He was aware that a petition was being circulated but did not believe the person
circulating the petition was even aware of what his proposal included.
Ms. Moore-Sykes stated she had spoken with Mrs. Russell Ingvalsen who had circulated the
petition. It was Ms. Moore-Sykes impression that Mrs. Ingvalsen had thought that two
monument signs were proposed in addition to the current signage. Ms. Moore-Sykes
explained the proposal to her and Mrs. Ingvalsen called again and asked for a list of the
persons who received notice of the proposal.
Chair Bergstrom asked if this was after the City had received the petition.
Ms. Moore-Sykes stated it was after receipt of the petition and after the City had sent notices.
She noted Mrs. Ingvalsen was made aware of the public hearing process.
Chair Bergstrom closed the public hearing at 7:36 P.M.
