Council

Mayor Ranallo thanked all of those who participated in the City's Clean-
Up Day on September 15th, noting a particular thanks to Councilmember
Enrooth and to Sue VanderHeyden. Councilmember Enrooth stated his "public"
thank you to Sue, noting she coordinated the activity and worked all day
at the clean up site.

Mayor Ranallo suggested some form of recognition, perhaps plaques, could
be given to the Clean Up Day volunteers. Councilmember Enrooth said he
would bring some recommendations regarding recognition back to the next
regular Council meeting.

Recently, Mayor Ranallo received three complaints regarding for-profit
businesses being .operated from individuals' homes. While he recognizes
that this type of activity occurs, the Mayor noted these businesses
were being operated with an apparent lack of discretion. The Public Works
Director issued citations to those individuals involved. Mayor Ranallo
requested Councilmembers to contact the Public Works Director when they
are made aware of activity such as this.

Councilmember Makowske has continued to receive calls from residents
expressing their concern and opposition to the Silver Lake Road project. .
She feels this issue needs further clarification in regards to that portion
of Silver Lake Road located in Hennepin County. This portion of roadway
will not be widened.

Mayor Ranallo recalled that letters were sent to all affected residents
in both Hennepin and Ramsey Counties explaining the details of the pro-
posed project. Councilmember Makowske knew of the letters, but felt that
some residents may not have read the letter carefully and others needed
reassurance that their portion of the roadway was not designated to be
widened.

Councilmember Makowske has been contacted by some residents who recently
attended a Crime Watch Program sponsored by the City's Police Department.
She was advised they felt additional lights in the City would enhance
resident security and they were circulating petitions to support lighting
requests. These petitions will be presented to the Council .
.
Councilmember Enrooth observed that there are a number of ways home security
can be increased and felt they should be discussed at the Crime Watch
meetings. _He suggested ,convert-ing gas 1 fights. to electricity was all option.-,
a-s is the use of motion sensor devices.
