She also did not feel a licensed daycare would Wilize a <br /> 3 ground sign unless it was some type of a franchise: <br /> 4 Commissioner Makowske noted under Cit Code ground City gr signs axe restnct6d to "heiglic tiltit ib <br /> 5 exceed 8 feet, including the pedestal and berming, a surface area of one side of 34 square feet or <br /> 6 two or more copy surfaces with a maximum of 68 square feet'. <br /> 7 Commissioner Horst suggested a more modest proposal.for signs in a residential area, such as a <br /> 8 maximum size of 3 by 3 feet, or 3 by 4 feet,with a maximum of 2 copy surfaces at 24 square feet <br /> 9 maxtmum. <br /> 10 Commissioner Franzese suggested ground signs should be allowed in R-1; R=1A; JWd M . <br /> 11 Districts only for permitted uses and permitted eonditionat uses with the bkdd}id6n- ofdwelliilgs <br /> 12 and State licensed facilities. <br /> 13 Chair Bergstrom stated he agreed with Commissioner Franzese'. He noted h6 eowners are <br /> 14 allowed an identification sign which by City Code is restricted to'brie per residential dwelling, a <br /> 15 surface area of 4 square feet per surface with no more than two surfaces, one address on the curb <br /> l6 in front of each dwelling'. <br /> 17 Commissioner Makowske stated the availability of the identification sign alleviated his concern of <br /> 18 being overly restrictive. <br /> 19 There was Commission consensus that ground signs should be allowed in R-1, R-IA, and R-2 <br /> 20 Districts only for permitted uses and permitted conditional,uses with the exception of dwellings <br /> 21 and State licensed facilities. Ground signs would continue to be permitted in R-3 and R-4, <br /> 22 Commercial and Industrial Districts. Commissioner Makowske will draft this consensus and <br /> 23 forward it to Staff to be forwarded to the City Council prior to their meeting on January 14, 1997.- <br /> 24 VM. CON=NTS. <br /> 25 A. Qmmussioners, <br /> 26 Chair Bergstrom reported Commissioners Horst and Gondorchin have applied for the open <br /> 27 position on the Planning Commission for 1997, as have two other applicants. <br /> 28 Chair Bergstrom noted the Pizza Hut has been sold to the owners of the Conoco Gas Station. <br /> 29 They hope to remove the Pizza Hut and extend the strip small to Ah Avenue. <br /> 30 B. Staf. <br /> 31 1. January Public Hearings. <br /> 32 a. Shopping Center Ordinance Aniendiher t. <br /> 33 Chair Bergstrom reported Mr. Beech will be present at the January 21, 1997 Planoung <br /> 34 Commission Meeting to present a proposal for the Verkin property. <br /> 35 <br />
