Planning Commission Regular Meeting Minutes
January 21, 1997
Page 6
Chair Bergstrom asked if Staff had requested a Master Development Plan for Apache Plaza
from OPUS.
Ms. Moore-Sykes stated she had been attempting to reach Mr. Scott but had not been in
contact with him at this point.
There was Commission direction for Staff to send a letter to Mr. Scott requesting a Master
Development Plan. This will be utilized by the Planning Commission to make decisions as
Apache Plaza continues to develop.
Commissioner Gondorchin stated he was disappointed with the Beach proposal. He noted the
property had been rezoned to accommodate single-family housing without the need of any
variances and he did not feel the Beach proposal was the best use of the property. He stated
he would vote against approval of the proposal.
Commissioner Franzese stated she felt the lettering on the new City Hall/Community Center
was ghastly, atrocious, unattractive and detracts from the building rather than enhancing it.
She stated she felt the logo should be included on the building.
Commissioner Gondorchin and Horst stated they agreed with Commissioner Franzese.
Commissioner Makowske stated he was also concerned with the design of the lettering on the
new building. He noted however, he had been inside the new building and was impressed
with the interior.
Commissioner Horst stated after reviewing the housing code and considering taxes and what
can and can't be done with the Verkins Property, he felt the Beach proposal could be the best
option for the property.

X.
