is a
Planning Commission Regular Meeting Minutes
January 21, 1997
Page 5
Mr. Beach stated a "Private Drive" sign will be installed.
Chair Bergstrom commended Mr. Beach for presenting a proposal for an odd shaped lot and
only requiring one variance. He noted rezoning from RI to R3 was not something the City
does lightly but also is not inconsistent with decisions made previously.
Commissioner Gondorchin stated he felt young families were the future of the City of St.
Anthony. He stated he was personally against the addition of multi-family buildings in the
City, especially on this lot after recently changing the zoning to R-1 for Mrs. Verkins.
Mr. Beach stated he felt this was a better zoning for the property since it was located on a
busy street. He felt it would be safer to have senior citizens on the lot than young children.
IX. COMMENTS.
Chair Bergstrom noted the first meeting of the Comprehensive Plan Task Force is scheduled
for January 29, 1997 at 7:00 P.M. An agenda has not yet been set. He stated that since it
would be the first meeting for many people, he felt it would be appropriate to back up and
give those people the opportunity to comment and make additions to the ideas already
received.
Chiar Bergstrom stated he would like some concrete issues to be discussed at the meeting
including the possibility of the City facilitating low interest loans for home improvements,
construction of a bandshell, redesigning of Central Park, etc.
Chair Bergstrom noted the City Council has appointed Robin Bednarz Rovick to the
Comprehensive Task Force as a resident-at-large.
Commissioner Gondorchin stated that at one point in time the Sports Boosters had ear-marked
an amount of money for the redesign of Central Park and the ballfields. He noted it was his
- 23 understanding that if the money was not spent on this project, it would be spent elsewhere.
He questioned if and how the money had been spent.
There was Commission direction for Staff to check on this item.
Commissioner Gondorchin stated he was disappointed that there was no output from the Joint
Meeting with the City Council regarding the Comprehensive Plan Update.
Ms. Moore-Sykes stated it was her understanding that a compilation of the results of that
Meeting would be provided on January 29, 1997. She noted Suzanne has also been gathering
facts about the City such as information on the streets, utilities, past Comprehesive Plan,
Metroplitan Council Livable Communities Housing Plan and the Water Plan.
There was Commission direction to Staff to try to obtain a compilation of the results of the
Joint Meeting prior to the meeting on January 29, 1997.
